Jewish Heritage Tour and Meet Your Mishpocha

15 Sep @ 10:30 am - 2:30 pm

Please join us on Sunday, September 15 at the Temple, beginning with a docent-led Jewish Heritage Tour by trolley focusing on Jewish life in our community from the early days of Jewish immigration to the present, followed by an opportunity to learn more about family history resources and a screening of “Growing Up Jewish in Fort Wayne.”

Our Jewish Family History Day (also known as “Meet Your Mishpocha”) is sponsored by Congregation Achduth Vesholom and the Northeast Indiana Jewish Genealogy Society. Join us for all or part of the day!

10:30 a.m. – Jewish Heritage Tour of Fort Wayne – Two trolleys with docents from ARCH will leave the Temple promptly at 10:30 a.m. Seating is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis. Ages 12 and up only. The tour is approximately 2 hours. (A self-guided tour will be available later this year.) The tour was developed by the Temple and ARCH in honor of the congregation’s 175th anniversary. Join us in the Social Hall after the tour. Lunch will be available.

Noon – Family History Resources – Gather in the Social Hall to learn about tracing your own family history from members of the NEIJGS; the Fort Wayne Jewish Families Database developed by the NEIJGS; the Temple’s oral history project; Jewish resources in The Genealogy Center at the ACPL; the 45th International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies conference on August 10-14, 2025 in Fort Wayne; and watch the video highlighting the Temple’s 175-year history.

1 p.m. – “Growing Up Jewish in Fort Wayne” – Learn about our Jewish community directly from those who grew up here in this video sharing stories from the Temple’s Oral History Project. Find out how we’re chronicling Fort Wayne’s Jewish roots and bringing Jews from all over the world to Fort Wayne for the IAJGS conference. We also will hold a drawing for a DNA test kit donated by the ACPL.

Thank you to the Dr. Harry W. Salon Foundation for its support.
