Erev Yom Kippur Services

24 Sep @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm

G’mar Chatima Tovah (May you be sealed)! We wish you an easy fast. Please join us for Erev Yom Kippur services on Sunday, September 24 at 8 p.m. in the Sanctuary when we gather as a community, with both Reform and Conservative minyanim worshiping together as one congregation for Kol Nidre. (Mincha begins at 7:15 p.m. in the Goldstine-B’nai Jacob Chapel, led by guest Cantor Yael Fischman.)

Please join us in person or via livestream on Zoom or YouTube.

Rabbi Meir Bargeron will lead the Kol Nidre service, weaving together aspects of both liturgical traditions to inspire new insights during this time of reflection, forgiveness, and renewal. He’ll be joined by Cantor Fischman, who returns as our guest clergy for a second year. She’ll also lead Conservative worship on the Day of Atonement.

Maestro Robert Nance and Hazemir, under the direction of John Planer, join us for the evening services. Brian Klickman will be our cellist for Kol Nidre. He is a member of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, where he holds the Linda and Joseph D. Ruffolo Family Foundation Chair, and is Principal Cellist of the Canton (OH) Symphony Orchestra.

Find the schedule for Reform and Conservative services on the Day of Atonement and the Break-the-Fasts hosted by the ROMEOs that follow both concluding services.

We welcome you to join us throughout the High Holy Days 5784

Zoom links for online attendance will be sent directly to congregants. Guests are warmly welcome for the holidays. Please contact us at (260) 744-4245 or office@templecav.org for access information for Zoom.

What is Yom Kippur?

Break-the-Fast The ROMEOs (Retired Old Men Eating Out) are preparing a delicious break-the-fast meal for the congregation following both Reform and Conservative services on Monday, September 25. Everyone is invited for Tuna salad, egg salad, bagel, lox, herring, kugels, fresh fruit and other delicacies.

Reservations are required to the Temple office at (260) 744-4245 by Tuesday, September 19 so that we can prepare enough food and seating. Thanks to the generosity of the ROMEOs, there is no charge. However, cash donations gladly will be accepted to help offset the costs.

Volunteers are needed to help with set ups and other tasks. Please contact the Temple office to offer your assistance. If you would like to sponsor the sweet wine for Kiddush, please let us know. Thank you to Denny Reynolds for organizing and the ROMEOs for hosting!

Remembering Loved Ones at Memorial Service – If you wish to have a loved one’s name included during memorial services on Yom Kippur, please provide information to the Temple office by Tuesday, September 19. Call us at (260) 744-4245 or email at office@templecav.org.

Join us for memorial services in person or via livestream on Zoom or YouTube on Monday, September 25 at 10 a.m. during our Conservative service or 4 p.m. during our Reform service.

High Holy Days Sponsors – Please consider being a “sponsor” of Achduth Vesholom’s High Holy Days 5784. Your generous gift will be used for needs during the holidays and beyond, from replenishing the floral fund to assisting with security, music, technology, and congregational events.

Sponsors who donate $54 or more by Tuesday, September 5 will be recognized in our holiday announcements.

We’re proud to be one congregation with two worship traditions. Whether your customary gift is through sponsoring aliyot during Conservative services or your annual donation contributes to other congregational needs, we value and appreciate your assistance.

We have several ways to give:

  • Donate online and choose “High Holy Days” on the dropdown menu. Please indicate if your gift is “in honor of” or “in memory of” a special person, or celebrates an occasion.
  • For aliyot during our Conservative service, please contact Josh Tourkow at jtourkow@tcrjlaw.com. (To donate online, choose “High Holy Days – Aliyot” on the dropdown menu and indicate if your gift is “in honor of” or “in memory of” a special person, or celebrates an occasion.)
  • Send a check payable to “CAV- The Temple” to sponsor the High Holy Days (5200 Old Mill Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46807)
