Joy Vey! A Kid-ish Shabbat & Sukkot with Musical Guest Joanie Calem
18 Oct @ 5:30 pm - 6:00 pm
Families with kids of all ages are invited to join our Joy Vey group for an outdoor Sukkot and Shabbat celebration on Friday, October 18 at 5:30 p.m. with guest musician Joanie Calem at the Temple.
Shake the lulav, light Shabbat candles, listen to stories in the sukkah, make holiday decorations, and enjoy Pizza in the Hut.
Joanie is a singer-songwriter, storyteller, educator and inclusion advocate. She grew up in Israel, where she worked both in Jewish-Arab relations and as a musician. Later, as the mother of an autistic child, Joanie began to understand the experience of exclusion and sensory needs more deeply, and, because of that, all her work has focused on inclusion and compassion.
She loves sharing music, stories and creating community with groups of all ages. Joanie’s seven CDs for young people, three CDs for adults, and six children’s picture books all focus on not “othering” people. She spends her days performing, singing, writing and teaching.
Pizza will be provided, but please RSVP online or contact the office at (260) 744-4245 by Sunday, October 13 so we know how much to order. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share. Contact Kate Crell at eisenka@gmail.com with any questions.
Thank you to the Dr. Harry W. Salon Foundation for its support of Joanie’s visit. Thank you to our Joy Vey and Holiday Celebration teams, including Wendy Soltz, Stephanie Gottesman, Kate Crell, Deborah Bauer.
