Lifelong Learning: Mark Lavie on Israel

11 Dec @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

What is the current situation in Israel and the Middle East after a year of war? Journalist Mark Lavie will join us on Wednesday, December 11 at 7 p.m. at the Temple to share his insights on where we are in the aftermath of the October 7 attack on Israel by Hamas.

His talk will be followed by a Q & A and light refreshments. The program also will be available on YouTube.

A Fort Wayne native, Lavie is the author of two books: Why Are We Still Afraid?, which follows his five-decade career and provides a real-time picture of Israel growing up, and Broken Spring, which gives insights from his time in Cairo from 2011-2013 covering the Arab Spring. Lavie’s blog posts on Israel and the Middle East can be read at Medialine.

Lavie’s roots in Fort Wayne include being part of the Temple’s Confirmation class of 1961, the first in the building on Old Mill Road. After graduating from Indiana University in Bloomington, he worked in television and radio news in Indianapolis and South Bend before making aliyah in 1972.

The program is sponsored by Congregation Achduth Vesholom and the Jewish Federation of Fort Wayne with support from the Dr. Harry W. Salon Foundation.
