Celebrate Shabbat and a simcha with us on Friday, March 20 at 6 p.m., led by Rabbi Meir Bargeron with Guest Cantorial Soloist Joseph Beutel and Maestro Robert Nance.

Our Temple family also will share in the joy of Rachel & Robert Laing during the naming ceremony for their daughter.

Join us in person or on YouTube. We warmly welcome guests. An Oneg Shabbat follows the service, hosted by the Laing Family.

Joseph Beutel is a dynamic bass-baritone known for his rich tone, and versatility across opera, concert, and musical theater. Equally at home in traditional and contemporary works, he brings emotional depth and nuance to each performance and thrives on artistic collaboration — particularly in originating roles that expand the boundaries of modern opera.

Most recently he performed the role of Herod in Catapult Opera’s Production of San Giovanni Battista by Alessandro Stradella. Notable roles include the “British Major” in Silent Night, the Pulitzer Prize-winning opera by Kevin Puts and Mark Campbell, and “Sir” in Mila, an opera commissioned by Asia Society Hong Kong exploring the lives of Filipino domestic workers.

He has performed with leading organizations such as Santa Fe Opera, New York City Opera, Seattle Opera, Minnesota Opera, the New York Philharmonic, New York City Ballet, Grant Park Music Festival, Gotham Chamber Opera, Catapult Opera and The English Concert. His work also bridges into dance, with performances alongside the Mark Morris Dance Group and José Limón Dance Foundation.

His musical theater credits include Encores! at New York City Center and in PBS’s Live at Lincoln Center. His recordings include the GRAMMY-nominated Requiem: Memory Eternal to the Fallen Heroes by Alexander Kastalsky, performed at the National Cathedral and released on Naxos.

A Fort Wayne native, he will be starting a new chapter as a Cantorial Ordination Candidate in the Debbie Friedman School of Music at Hebrew Union College this fall 2026.
