Unpacking Biblical Art

Tuesday, April 7 at 7 p.m.

In person at the Temple or on Zoom

Explore stories from the Torah and how they have been depicted in art across centuries. Drawing on research by Dr. Jacob Wisse, Wendy Soltz will examine how artists have interpreted biblical narratives: sometimes closely following the text and other times adding details, emotions, or imagery not found in the Torah.

By comparing the original passages with well-known artistic representations, participants will see how visual culture has shaped our understanding of sacred stories and learn to distinguish between what the text actually says and what later artists imagined.

Wendy is a Temple member and Associate Professor of History and Director of the Public History Program at Ball State University.

The link will be available in the Temple’s weekly email.
