Registration is open for our popular “Journey Into The World of Yiddish” class taught by Dr. Lee Roberts, Associate Professor of German Studies at IPFW. The class begins Sunday, October 25 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. We’ll learn words and phrases, along with some reading and writing of Yiddish, and gain an understanding of the culture through movies and music. Temple members and non-members are welcome. Contact Adult Learning Chair Jan Sarratore at Sarratorej@comcast.net. Our textbook is Colloquial Yiddish: The Complete Course for Beginners by Lily Kahn.  Transliteration will be available for those who do not speak or read Hebrew.

Dates:
Session 1: Sundays from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Temple on October 25, November 1, November 8, and December 13. (Make-up Date if needed: November 22)

This class will be a review/refresher for participants who attended Yiddish class in the spring of 2015 and will also be offered to any newcomers interested in learning Yiddish. This first part of the class will concentrate on Yiddish as a culture as well as phrases and translations from songs, letters and literature.  It is open to Temple members and non-members.

Session 2: Sundays  from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Temple on February 21, March 6, March 13, April 10, April 17, and May 1. (Make-up Date if needed: May 15)

This session will move us forward in our learning of Yiddish.  In this class, participants will delve into Yiddish phrases, some writing and reading Yiddish, as well as Yiddish movies, Yiddish music and its culture.  We will read and hear tales from Sholem Aleichem, as well as other Yiddish authors and discuss the selections. Our final session will most likely include a wonderful Yiddish potluck - the favorite of many last year! The class is open to members and non-members.

Tuition:

Members of Congregation Achduth Vesholom:

·         Yiddish 1 & 2 - $35.   (Couples will have the option of getting 1 book to share and will pay $40 if they take this option.)

·         Yiddish 1 only - $20.

·         Yiddish 2 only - $25.

Non-Members of Achduth Vesholom:

·         Yiddish 1 & 2 - $40. (Couples will have the option of getting 1 book to share and will pay $45. if they take this option.)

·         Yiddish 1 only - $25

·         Yiddish 2 only - $30

Students of Professor Roberts - $20
